Water, Sewer & Garbage
The MD provides utility services to its residents. There are residential, commercial, and truck fill services available.

How to set up services
Please submit a written Application Form to the MD of Opportunity to connect to (or disconnect from) the water, waste water, and solid waste systems, or to obtain services from such systems. Once water services are approved, they will be connected within a 24 hour period.
Rates for Residential Utility Services
Water $28.00 per month Flat Rate
Sewage $12.00 per month Flat Rate
Garbage $10.00 per month Flat Rate
Deposit Fee $75.00
A deposit is required if you are not the property owner and are a renter of the residence. No deposit fee is required for garbage pickup services only.
Billing and Payment Terms
Billing is done on a monthly basis. Example: October billing will be mailed out first week of November.
Payment Terms
Your local MD office accepts cash, cheques, and Visa and Mastercard (in person or via telephone). You also have the option to submit your payments online and through telephone banking. The MD also offers a pre-authorized debit payment plan which is debited from your account on the 15th of every month.
Please be advised an additional $25.00 charge will be made for each dishonoured payment.
Penalties
A penalty of 1.5% will be applied to your account if the current charges remain unpaid by the due date which is the second last working day of the month.
Rate
$8.80 per cube (220 gallons in 1 cube). A minimum fee of $20.00 per month is applicable to all key lock accounts if there is no consumption.

How to set up Commercial Services
Please submit a written Credit Check Application to the MD of Opportunity to obtain Truck Fill services for verification. Once the application is approved, the Utility Clerk will notify you to complete the remaining paper work.
Deposit
A deposit of $1,000 is required before access is granted to consume water from the water treatment plants.

Senior Citizen Utility Exemption Grant
The MD also offers utility exemption grants for qualified senior citizens, 65 years of age or older. You must be residing on the property and be the titled owner.
Water Delivery
Water delivery is provided to residents of the MD that do not have access to treated water through buried lines, and who are within a range where the MD can provide the water delivery at a reasonable rate.
Truck-fill stations are available in all MD of Opportunity communities. Tank trucks service all communities with service provided on a weekly basis.
Water Treatment
The MD of Opportunity operates and maintains the water treatment plants and water distribution systems located in each community.
Areas Serviced
Wabasca, Desmarais, Calling Lake, Sandy Lake, Chipewyan Lake, and Red Earth Creek: Water and Sewer services are provided by water and sewer mains and by tank truck services.
Sandy Lake has water and sewer service provided by way of main lines on Grizzly Trail, Wolf Trail, Raven Road, and Pelican Road. The remaining lots are serviced by tank trucks.

Pre-Authorized Payment Plans
The MD offers pre-authorized payment plans for its residents. Please submit a written Pre-Authorized Tax Application Form or Pre-Authorized Utility Payments Application Form to the MD of Opportunity.
Payment transactions occur on the 15th of each month. We currently have 58 taxation customers and 90 utility customers on this plan.
