We would like to clarify a few things for the residents;


The Emergency Command Centers would like to address that in recent passed bylaws by both governments that “anyone leaving the community and upon return is to Quarantine or self-isolate for 14 days”.

In order to help us identify possible COVID-19 infections in Wabasca, we now have a testing site to begin testing residents. 

The test is fast, painless and will help us ensure the safety of Wabasca when COVID-19 arrives through early identification and assessment of cases.

COVID-19 Update (March 23, 2020) - Community access limitations and curfew



As of today March 23, 2020, Bigstone Cree Nation and the MD of Opportunity have passed motions which will limit access to the communities as recommended by our Emergency Coordination Centre. This will be conducted by road monitoring stations. Right now the number of confirmed cases in our communities is 0 and we would like to keep it that way. The only people allowed into our communities will be the community members and the essential service providers.

The MD of Opportunity and Bigstone Cree Nation declared a State of Local Emergency (SOLE) today March 20, 2020.  This State of Local Emergency (SOLE) will effect the communities of Wabasca, Calling Lake, Sandy Lake, Chipewyan Lake and Red Earth Creek.

Coronavirus (COVID 19)

This is a message from Reeve Marcel Auger of the MD of Opportunity #17 and Chief Silas Yellowknee of Bigstone Cree Nation on Coronavirus (COVID 19).

These preparations are based on recommendations from Alberta Health and Canada Health.

At this time Alberta is categorized as low risk; however, we cannot overstate the importance of personal hygiene, mainly washing hands often, minimizing touching your face and avoiding large gatherings.
