COVID-19 Update (March 23, 2020) - Community access limitations and curfew

As of today March 23, 2020, Bigstone Cree Nation and the MD of Opportunity have passed motions which will limit access to the communities as recommended by our Emergency Coordination Centre. This will be conducted by road monitoring stations. Right now the number of confirmed cases in our communities is 0 and we would like to keep it that way. The only people allowed into our communities will be the community members and the essential service providers.

Community members leaving the community must self-isolate for 14 days once they return. Failure to comply will result in a $2000 fine.

Community wide curfew hours will now be in place as of today from 8:00pm to 6:00am. Only essential service providers delivering goods or providing hospital care will be permitted on the local roads. Any vehicle or persons not authorized to travel during these curfew hours will be escorted home by the RCMP as well as given a $500 ticket per person.

Effective immediately there will be no in-restaurant dining allowed in all communities. Take out is the only option for service.

Minors are no longer permitted to enter any public buildings within the communities (Groceries and convenience stores). Only 1 person per vehicle will be allowed to enter these stores.

The focus is on providing for the most vulnerable in our communities. We will work to make sure that no one will go hungry.

As the leaders of this community, it is imperative you follow the precautionary measures that are being recommended to us by the Wabasca Alberta Health service professionals. We need the cooperation of everyone to protect our communities. If you love your families, please take these recommendations serious and stay home and stay safe!

Thank you
