The Wabasca Water World and Fitness Centre is a multi use recreational facility. Opened in June 2004 it continues to average 3,000 patrons per month. It truly lives up to its motto: “Get Wet, Get Fit, Have Fun”.
The 2500 square foot fitness area’s modern equipment allows people to work every muscle in their body. With 6 treadmills, 3 elliptical’s, 2 stationary bikes, and a rowing machine cardio workout enthusiasts have little worries about waiting. The heavy punch bag and small punching bag are used by many people looking for a challenge. Finally there are over 10 stability balls and boards to work your core.
Those who prefer guided workouts partake in our fitness classes: step, core strengthening, and fitness circuit. These classes run 2 – 3 times a week September – May. We currently have 1 certified personal trainer and 1 working towards this certification that run these classes and give private consulting.
The swimming pool has 5 lanes 25 meters long which many adults use for fitness and runs aquasize classes 3 times per week but most community members think of fun when they come to swim. The “L” shaped pool has a 15 meter long beach area that goes from 0 depth to .9 meters very gradually. This beach also has a small slide that lands the little ones into the water gently. The main tank has basketball and volleyball nets, a 1 meter diving board, and a 10 meter high climbing wall that keeps people very busy. But it is the 30 foot high water slide with its figure 8 and double corkscrew that almost everyone enjoys. Add in an array of small toys (1 person boats, balls, noodles, lifejackets, etc.) and it is easy to see why people think of fun in the water. The trained lifeguards ensure everyone safety comes first without limiting their enjoyment. They also teach swimming to all ages – preschool to adults. Those who are just looking to relax go to the whirl pool, sauna, or steamroom.
The large viewing area is used to watch the activities, for birthday parties, or private rentals. Many months this area is booked solid making the community plan well in advance.
We field many questions about our solar panels. These long tubes heat our pool, domestic water, and our in floor heating. On sunny days (winter or summer) we can really tell they are working overtime. Lastly with the pool being salt water our patrons enjoy less eye irritation, smoother skin, and hair, and less of that famous pool “chlorine smell”.
