For those who yearn to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life -- even for a short time -- the MD of Opportunity beckons with tranquil woods and scenic lakes. Wabasca is the largest community in the region where bountiful fishing is one of the main attractions, but other popular recreational pursuits are quading, camping, boating, paddling, hiking, and hunting. Even in winter, the area is alive with outdoor activities including snowmobiling and ice fishing. For photography enthusiasts, beautiful landscapes and wildlife can be captured easily during all four seasons. A special treat for those in the area during fall and winter is a chance to view the mystifying Northern lights.

Other communities have their own unique charms for visitors: Calling Lake with its friendly cottage community and numerous beaches; Red Earth Creek, with its shooting and driving ranges and travel amenities; Sandy Lake and Peerless Lake, with their serene beauty and healthy fish stocks; Trout Lake, with its abundant wildlife; and Chipewyan Lake, where nature is on display in its purest form.
