Getting to the M.D. of Opportunity
The M.D. of Opportunity #17 is located in north-central Alberta, approximately 375 km north of Edmonton. Secondary Highways 754, 813, 686, and primary Highway 88, which are all paved, link the M.D. with nearby communities of Slave Lake, Athabasca and Peace River. The M.D. of Opportunity also has five local airports.
Banking
Wabasca has an ATB Financial Sub-branch which is located inside Home Hardware. ATM’s are located in stores and camps in the Wabasca-Desmarais area.
Calling Lake has an ATM available at Jokat Store.
Red Earth Creek has a number of ATM’s located in various stores and camps.

Wildlife Management units within the MD of Opportunity includes the following Boreal 500 Series units:
Eligible big game in the area are white-tailed deer, mule deer, black bear, elk, and moose. |

FISHINGFishing is a popular activity on Calling Lake, Rock Island Lake, Sandy Lake, North Wabasca Lake, Chipewyan Lake, Peerless Lake, and Graham Lake. Species include walleye (pickerel), northern pike (jack fish), whitefish, lingcod. Visitor Information Centers
| Two Visitor Information Centers are available in the MD of Opportunity and offer loads of local insight including free maps, brochures, event calendars, and other helpful information. The Centers also have local artwork for sale such as beading, paintings, dream catchers, and moccasins. Complimentary tea and coffee is available.
