GIS & Mapping

Under the Lands & Planning department, the M.D. employs two Geographic Information System (GIS) technicians who are responsible for:

• Managing, maintaining & improving the Municipal GIS database
• Production of GIS/CAD-related maps
• Maintenance of Engineering records
• GPS/Trimble data capture & procedures
• Providing GIS-related technical assistance to MD Staff
• Designing and printing posters for various MD and community events
• Providing information and assistance to other departments, the public, consultants and contractors

Our technicians are proficient with various desktop GIS, CAD and software programs including Autocad Map, GeoMedia Professional, ArcView, Microsoft Office Professional, and various graphic design programs.

We are available to provide GIS and Mapping services to:

• The Hamlets and citizens of Wabasca, Calling Lake, Sandy Lake, and Red Earth Creek and area, and
• The Online GIS User Community through the Municipal WebMap (webmap.mdopportunity.ab.ca).

A few examples of the information contained in the M.D.’s GIS database include hydrants, water/sewer cc’s locations, Oil & Gas wells, blueprints, and land owner & taxation information.
