Dennis M. Egyedy, MD Chief Administrative Officer

It is a great pleasure to serve the communities and residents of the Municipal District of Opportunity No. 17. The MD is a hidden treasure of Northern Alberta with its many lakes for those who enjoy sport fishing and hunters looking for a trophy deer or moose.

Since I joined the MD on July 15, 2010, there has been continued development in each community to improve infrastructure and municipal services. In 2010, we commissioned two water treatment plants, and constructed two community halls. Other projects being developed include a multiplex field house and a new medical clinic in Wabasca. The list of projects continues with a new precast skateboard park and the start of an eighteen -hole golf course and clubhouse which is scheduled to open by 2013.

Personal Background

My experience spans over thirty years in management and consulting positions in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Alberta and in Canada’s North. Positions held include Chief Administrative Officer in four communities, the first City Clerk for the City of Iqaluit, Executive Director, Finance and Administration for Nunavut Arctic College, and Area Superintendent for the Department of Local Government in the Northwest Territories.

An educational background includes an Honors Degree in Public Administration with a Major in Labor Relations and Personnel Management from the University of Windsor. Additional certifications attained come from McMaster University, the Labor College of Canada, and Emergency Management Canada.

Mandate

The Chief Administrative Officer is the senior employee and responsible for managing the staff and resources of the Municipal District of Opportunity. The CAO is accountable to the Reeve and Council to provide sound administrative and financial advice to make good decisions for the safety and comfort of its residents. The CAO is the direct supervisor of all municipal managers and is responsible for their performance in the delivery of services and programs.
