Quality child care is essential to the development and well-being of children, families and communities. Quality child care must meet the physical, social, intellectual, creative and emotional developmental needs of children.
The M.D. of Opportunity No. 17 believes it has a role in ensuring quality child care is available to their communities.
Child Care staff are certified and qualified individuals and include a Child Care Director, Child Care Supervisors, and Child Care Workers.

Child Care Closures
If a child care program must close during the day due to any situation where the health and safety of the children are at risk, the parents will be notified and must pick up their children immediately.
Child Care Programs are closed on all statutory holidays

Procedure
- Submit application with $100 deposit fee per child
Refundable if child is withdrawn and all fees are paid
- Registration form must be completed at child care center once child is accepted
- Fees are billed at the end of each month and due by the 20th of the following month.
- Children must be in same family to receive 2nd and 3rd child rates
- Drop-in child only accepted if room is available
Reduction in fees* available for:
- Family vacation (max 15 days per year)
- Illness with doctor’s notes
- Flex days (max 5 days per year) for illness without doctors note.
Reduction in fees based on what parent actually pays divided by 21 (average number of billing days in a month)
Example for Child Care:
No subsidy: $550÷21 = $26/day reduction
Full subsidy: $189÷21 = $9/day reduction
Example for Out of School Care:
No subsidy: $252÷21= $12/day reduction
Full subsidy: $26÷21= $1.25/day reduction
Government Subsidy
Government subsidy is based on parent income and will vary from the maximum amount to zero. Please ensure you enter the full rate ($735/Childcare or $336/OSC) when applying. Parents that qualify for provincial subsidy may apply and must complete all required paperwork. MD Subsidized Rates will be applicable until the provincial subsidy comes into effect or if it is not received at any time. Consult the Alberta Human Services website for more information.
